The latest CAF dispatch has some interesting updates on the restoration of the PBY, P-63F(pinball paint!), Diamond Lil, Tulsa A-26 and FW-44. Plus news about restoring their C-46 China Doll back to airworthy and also looking into restoring their Hoverfly to airworthy!!!
With That's All Brother and this news I am joining the CAF this weekend.

ps. does anyone know the status of their Storch, P-47 or Swordfish?

Also what is the plan with their Il-16 after the move from Midland?

I can provide a bit of info on the above. The Swordfish is a static-only restoration (not airworthy) and is still in Midland in the main hangar, which is now operated by the local High Sky Wing. The Polikarpov I-16 is there also, having not been flown for several years due to its interesting ground handling on paved runways and other reasons. I don't know what the plans are for them as of now.

The Storch is assigned to the CAF 3rd Pursuit Squadron in California, and I believe they are still working to have the Argus As 10 engine overhauled, as some parts are hard to obtain. The P-47N is waiting for a plan and funds to finish its restoration.

I hope you do join the CAF as you will then have access to more updates on the planes, events, etc. via The Dispatch, our social media outlets and regular On the Fly email updates. Once you get your CAF Colonel number, you will be able to log into the Members Only section of the CAF website http://www.commemorativeairforce.org/. Hope that helps.

Randy

Did I understand it correctly that the P-63F is being done up as a Pinball? The F model?

Is the A-26 being reworked back to bomber condition, or will it continue to have the exec fuselage installed?

This is my question, also.
The story in the CAF Dispatch doesn't specify the "F" and the picture shows a regular tail. :?

It says the plane is based in Houston so it has to be the F model.
