Going to be in Memphis in mid-February, any warbird/aviation attractions to see there in my spare time?

Elvis' place should still have his two private jets on exhibit; warbirds they ain't, of course, but if you like old airliners as well, the Convair 880 is a rare survivor.

The "Bristol collection" (Lysander/Bolingbroke/Swordfish projects) is in Tennessee somewhere IIRC but I don't remember which city...

I have to think, too, that there's got to be a least a couple Warbirds privately-owned in the area. Tennessee WIXers, over to you!

Only one I recall seeing now that the Belle is gone is the RA-5C on a stick out at the Naval Support Activity in Millington.

There is a new Squadron in Memphis!

Currently they have a Hawker Seafury, which is assigned to them, and in their hanger they have several private T-6s. I will try and find some info on them.

Hello Steve! Congrats to the guys and ladies in the Memphis area on forming a new CAF group! On the Sea Fury or Fury (whichever name you wish to use), I believe that this is a privately owned aircraft...... probably to Mr David Peeler, who has also recently signed on as a pilot sponsor of the P-51 Rednose. As much as I would like to see a CAF owned Fury and Tempest flying, I don't believe that we currently own either type. Would someone care to contribute either type? Alan

I believe all the surviving examples of this type are or were originally Sea Furies. There were only 4 examples of the original Fury built, and I don't believe any survive. Airframes listed today as Furies are in actuality de-navalized Sea Furies. The airframes that went to Iraq are among these de-navalized versions.

Neal Melton (P-47 Hun Hunter) has an awesome museum in Sevierville, but I'm not sure how far away it is, but well worth it.

Sevierville is about 420 miles east of Memphis, just off I-40 east of Knoxville.

I agree, the Tennessee Aviation Museum in Sevierville is a great one. Two flyable P-47's and one hulk. An Avenger and a PBY. Several jets and other aircraft.
