I was reminded of an interesting video while looking at the topic for possible WWII movies.

A man named Fred Hagen, who was the great nephew of William Benn ( the pilot who pioneered skip bombing techniques with great success) went to New Guinea in 1995 to look for his Uncle's lost plane. He made a nice video of this effort called "B-25 Down, Hunt for a Hero" Amazingly, he found it after several trips and a lot of hard work. There was also some good underwater footage of a completely intact B-17 as well as two different ones on land. Other planes were also found.

New Guinea is a tough climate to work in and Mr. Hagen had quite an adventure.

Another cool place that has not been explored is Empress Augusta Bay in Bougainville. Lots of ships and planes there. The political climate in Bougainville is, unfortunately, unstable at this time. I do, however, intend to pay a visit.
