Couple of pics of the newly completed FHC Jug popped up over on AAFO. Can't wait for some detailed info on this one.

Has anyone ever put a jumpseat conversion in a bubble canopy P-47? Is it possible?
Thanks

I would say no.

The canopy is electric and the tracking runs behind the pilots seat on the rear decking aft of the armour plate/head rest.

Which to my mind is to complicated to remove and replace with a subsitute system for the canopy.

You would also have to disturb the control tube runs for the elevator.

So i would think not.

:D You could do like they did in the movie "Fighter Squadron" and have the passenger set on the pilot's lap!

Bentwing is correct,

In a bubble canopy Thunderbolt, there is no room for a "jump seat". Mainly due to the surrounding cockpit structure behind the once armored seat. But the electrical actuator for the canopy is on the centerline of the cockpit and you really have no room to modify the area to even accept a second seat.

As I recall the same situation exists on the razorback, yet there is at least one two-seater flying.

Both the POF razorback and "Little Demon" have jump seats added. However, neither has the problem of the canopy actuating mechanism being on the spine of the aircraft right behind the pilot. How would you slide the canopy on a bubble top Jug if you removed that section of fuselage to make room for a second seat?

How did Bob Diemert build a 5 seater (or whatever) Mustang with a T-33 canopy? I have seen a two seat Bearcat. What is that canopy arrangement like?

Sorry for my stupidity...who's bird is this? Where is it located? Why don't we see many razorbacks being restored?

Thanks for your expertise.

I suspect that there are more razorbacks being restored right now than bubble canopied variants. Just a guess though.

Does anyone know of any and/or have any images of current razorback restorations? Thanks!

Scroll down to "Thunder Alley" (or better yet, buy the mag).
