I recently picked up one of the 1/32 Ultimate Soldier Macchi 202s that Walmart has been selling, and realized I don't know diddly about the Regia Aeronautica and it's activities during WWII. Can anyone recommend any good books on said subject? I am particularly interested in pilot biographies or autobiographies. Thanks in advance!

Zack

PS: The "toy" is very detailed and makes a great shelf sitter btw...

I too couldn't resist the 202 in sand 'n spinach camo...although the lg gear
doors needed a bit of x-acto trimming to make her sit right.
Also, needed a little toothpaste polishing on the spinner for smudge removal.

As for the Regia Aero biographies, I ran into some stuff a while back on the web,
but I don't have anything in print I suggest. My main ID book is Italian Civil and
Military Aircraft 1930-1945/ Jonathan W. Thompson, 1963. A bit dated, but it's an old friend that always manages to head me in the right direction.

I'll dig up the websites later if you like. Just left a mudbug feast and headed out the door for brisket 'n gumbo. :D

Here's some,

Regia Aeronautica, A pictorial history of the Italian Air Force 1940-1943
Squadron/Signal by Christopher Shores

Regia Aeronautica Vol. 2 Pictorial history of the Aeronautica epubblicanna and the Italian Co-Brlligerent Air Force 1943-1945
Squadron Signal by F. D'Amico & G. Valentini

Courage Alone, The Italian Air Force 1940-1943, by Chris Dunning

Air War Over Italy, by Andrew Brookes

There are several good books on which ever individual aircraft you may be interested in.

Regards,
Mike

Thank you - I'll see if I can't find a copy of the Thompson book. If you are willing and have the time, I would appreciate the websites. Thanks much!
