This is the famous Barrie Clark Spitfire V painting, possibly the most oft-reproduced Warbird rendering ever. I have a reduced-size print of it that was given me by my brother some years ago. The Spit was drafted based on a very nice A2A photo of a Spit V, SN:M codes and all, but the dramatic stormy background cloudscape was Mr Clark's own. (BTW, when CAAA assembled its Millennium Collection, one of the paintings included was a Messerschmitt 109E depicted similarly to this Spit, against a similar stormy backdrop--as a kind of tongue-in-cheek homage to this renowned Spit painting. That 109 pic is on show currently with the rest of CAAA's grouping at the RCAF Museum at Trenton, in case any WIXers might be passing through that area and have an interest in aviation art).

Popular painting...so popular in the the UK in fact that it rivals the 'Green Asian lady with the coolie hat'... and considered 'naff' by some.

With the magic of 'photoshop/PSP' you can almost make it look like an original b/w photograph.



It is EN821/SN-M of 243 Squadron. Here is a side view from the same photo shoot.
