Warbird Information Exchange

I just bought a Warbirds DVD Vol 1 which includes the 88 Tilco Airshow, and they show an AF-2 Guardian, where is that at now? And also on the DVD is the 89 Airsho from Harligen, whats the status of PV-2 "Fat Cat"?

Fat Cat caught fire and burned while taxiing. Fat Cat II is now completely derelict...in such rough shape I doubt she'll ever fly again.

Fat Cat used to be based in Conroe, TX and was a regular participant at the region's air shows and open houses.

Somewhere, I believe that have a picture of Fat Cat even before it became such an obese feline. If this is the right aircraft, it used to sit, almost derelict, at the Arcola Airport, in South Houston, TX.

Ronald Fountain (used to own an ex-Spanish AF T-6G) was also working on restoring a Harpoon, at the Anahuac airport, but I guess due to lack of support and $$, his project died.

Whatever happened to this other Harpoon??

The Guardian belonged to Jimmy Leeward. I think he still owns it but I could be wrong on that point.

"Fat Cat" was not based in Conroe, it burned on the taxiway in Conroe, following an airshow there. I was at the airshow when it happened. At the time, my plane was based in CXO.

It was based in Lafayette, LA.

Wow, I'd like to see that too. Where did you buy it? I think that particular PV-2 "Fat Cat" may have been the one that had the electrical fire and burnt to the ground. Anyone else confirm or deny? The Guardian may be the one that currently resides in the Navy Museum at Pensacola or one that I heard Jimmy Leeward owns. Again just rumors, no hard facts. Could you post where you got the DVD though? I'd really like to get a copy. THX

I have at least a couple of shots of Fat Cat, but all I could find was this overview of the Wings over Houston, date is September 26, 1987.

I got the DVD at a garage sale, I could try to burn the DVDs for you guys if you want me to.

Tulio, the Harpoon at Arcola was not Fat CAt. That Harpoon was still sitting there after Fat Cat burned at Conroe. Whoever bought the one at Arcola showed up to ferry it out. On the takeoff roll something happened and they went offroading . Screwed up the gear and the last word was they were going to fix it and fly it out. Don't know what finally happened. We moved the Collings B-25 to Hobby and we lost touch with what was going on at Arcola.

I got mine on eBay, there is a set there now. See item number #280008343304

If you live by a Family Dollar store they may have them there too...

Tulio, do you have any pics of a T-6 with the nose art "Snoopy"? I used to own that and flew in Wings Over Houston for several years. All of my pics burned up in a hangar fire in Conroe in '94.

Skymster02, I've heard stories about the Navy Hangar fire..which we both
worked in at different time periods. The basics of the story are, that the
National Guard helicopters based at Conroe had determined with their
infra-red(FLIR?) equipment that the water tower there at the airport was
almost empty of water. Supposedly they mentioned this to the airport
personell, but were ignored or not heeded. Therefor when the hangar
caught fire there wasn't enough water to extinguish it.

Have you ever heard this story?

I have no pics but were you the pilot who flew that during the making of the original Honor Squadrons? Because I do recall a blue and yellow T-6 with Snoopy on the nose in that show.

Let me check my files for a picture of Snoopy.

If I do not have it in my computer, I could probably have it at home.

I'll keep looking.

OK, I understand regarding Fat Cat. This is what happens when you trust memory over facts, like I did.
