Shuttleworth Evening Display 19th Aug, Pictures

For the first time in many years, the weather played a significant role in the display. Showers during the display changed to some of the most impressive cloud formations I have seen just as the display started.

The fact that we had any sort of display is a testament to the skill of the pilots and the never say die attitude of the Volunteers and Groundcrew.

First up in the flying display was Rod Dean in the Kennet Seafire.

Then came Peter Borchert in his Pitts

He was followed by the Anson, at which point the clouds started to get interesting

Beautiful but somehow worrying!

Then came the Tiger Moth and Tutor display both in their CFS colours, this will be really nice when the light gets better. (Here are some of the Tiger earlier on in the day.)

There was then a rain delay, after which we had the Chipmunk, Gladiator and Hurricane, the photos are poor but as the pilots were prepared to fly I thought it would be rude not to try and get some images.

A very big thank you to all who persevered to give us a display.

Great stuff as always Nick...hope to get back over someday and see another Shuttleworth show...and the Lasagna at the local pub was'nt bad either, chased by a pint of Spitfire ....all made for a great experience 2 years in a row.

They still need a Corsair tho....Richard himself would've told ya that...

Couldn't agree more Mark... a corsair in FAA markings would have been perfect to go along with the other naval themed fighters

Nice photos Nick, many thanks for sharing. Still can't believe I've never made it to Old Warden. Tantamount to sacrilage for a Brit, regardless of being an ex-pat.!

Mike, no worries on that score, but it was "interesting". Incidentally, have you ever seen a Corsair land at Old Warden?

I don't think so. The Hellcat has been there, and of course Peter Teichman's P-51, P-40 and Spitfire XI. I believe the largest aircraft that they've had is the DH Heron that visited for the Moth Club charity days last summer.

Indeed, Hoof brought it in, and he died 10 years ago last month.

The WX adds "mood" to the images ... as we say in the aviation art world, the worse the weather, the better the painting looks!

Great shots...the Avro comming out of the clouds with the light on envokes a certain real life flying feel...you don't always get that with warbird shots.
