the aero vintage b17 page has a tidbit about a possible b17 c restoration or rebuild that may possibly be happening in the near future. does such a plane exist or enough parts to have something to start with?? does anybody out ther have any info that they could share on the possibility of such an undertaking?? this could be pretty cool!!

It has been my understanding that the only two B-17 "C" models that are even known about are the one that the Smithsonian has (The Swoose) and the one that is on National Park Service lands out west, and even that one is a wreck site that has been obviously vandalised over the years. But it would be a real neat thing if something like a "C" model would be found, restored and made flyable.

the swoose is actually a D model as far as i know. ive seen the pics of the c model wreck site and it sure doesnt look like enough to rebuild a plane from. i wonder what these folks have in mind? maybe some sort of static re creation?? maybe theres some secret airframe out there?? sim.

Paging Aero Vintage ......... Scott ~ is there any more to this story that you can share with us right now ~ or will we have to be patient ?

Not much more at the request of some individuals. This appears to be more of a re-creation that a restoration, though, as there aren't many B-17C pieces out there. However, I do understand some B-17C components are going to be used. More to follow when it's available.

I can live with a recreated B-17C! At least it won't be too rare to fly. I hope more groups under take some re-births of extinct models or types.
