BRINGING BACK A 190!

The Flug Werk Company that has produced flying FW190A-8/N and future flying D-9/N reproductions based at Gammelsdorf, Germany has featured in our news pages several times over the years as we have followed the remarkable story of the rebirth of the legend. One of the recipients of their work is Don Hansen who is using major structure from Flug Werk and incorporating an identity and some original parts of a crashed example. Don tells his story, and in addition there is a list of the Flug Werk machines and also a look at the Jurca full scale replicas.

With the popularity of the new build Yak-3 and 9s coming out of Orenburg factory, Russia in the mid nineties a second production run was ordered in 1996. This run was to be for the Allison powered version of the Yak-9U. Shadetree Aviation acted as distributor for the aircraft in the U.S.
The last of the nine was purchased by Jim and Jenny Wickham of Tyabb Victoria and arrived in Australia during June 2004 where it now flies. Jim describes how he got involved with the aircraft.

FRENCH FALCONS - ‘Normandie- Niémen’

Whilst the history of this fighter group is well documented, little has been written on the disposition of the pilots and aircraft once they returned to France in triumph, arriving at Le Bourget airfield on June 20th 1945, until the Regiments disbandment at the end of 1947. New information goes someway in rectifying this, and that information is complimented by rare colour photos taken at wars end, along with a look at the sole surviving Yak-3 from the 'NN'.
