Bob Hoovers HU-16 Albatross

I was in Bob's Airpark in Tucson the very last few days. I could have bought one of those bannana helicopters for scrap price. Had two days to get it out and couldn't do anything. There was a Hu-16 there as well. Does anyone have any info on it.thanks

You have anymore info on the helicopter? That might look good sitting next to the PBY in my pond.

Check with Jack at Jack's Surplus down the road. He got all of the H-34s. Jack may have an idea, or check with guy who bought the land that was Bob's, he sold all that stuff off to make way for the aircraft he put there.

Now that you mentioned Jack i do remember talking to him about that stuff. He seemed to be pretty down to earth.

Funny story about the H-34s, when the guy who bought Bob's started trying to sell the H-34s he was asking 2500.00 ea, then he dropped the price to 1500.00 ea, finally got to 500.00 ea and no takers. Jack told me that the final was 250.00 ea buy one get one free ! That's how Jack got them all.

How did Bob Hoover get into this picture? I don't recall seeing him on Sunday Morning hawking A/C with his sign, call BR5429 today for a great deal....

Place was called Bob's Airpark. The guy who owned it was indeed Bob Hoover, just not THAT Bob Hoover. Actually I believe the proprieter passed away and the guy who bought the place was the one trying to clear the yard.
One of the last aircraft was a lonely C-46. No engines but it was an intact airframe and on its gear. I heard that a lot of its parts went to restoring one of the CAF C-46s. It still had its 5th or 15th AF insignia up on its tail.
Price? $1500.00 Don't know who got it.

Sounds like the one that's at Chino now.

Yeah, that C-46 is now at Chino.
There was a CH-21C and an UH-34 which was just over the eastern boundary from Bobs Air Park and when the yard was cleared these two helicopters remained. They eventually went somewhere, probably for free. Another of the CH-21s and an H-34 went to Pima and were in the Pima 'storage' area.
