Planes of Fame North American O-47

Nathan's post showing O-47s in Hawaii reminded me that I just photographed the Planes of Fame example under restoration to airworthy.

They just moved it to a different building so it isn't as hidden from the public as it used to be.





Planes of Fame is just finishing up a new hangar so a lot of the displays scattered to the winds are being relocated. It gets better every day!

Looks like it may be time for an O-47 registry Scott!

Thanks for sharing BDK. Not sure why but I really like the portly old 0-47 and can't wait to see the POF example finished. I only got to see their previous 0-47 once before it was destroyed.

Coincidentally, the POF O-47's first movie appearance is on TCM this week in the 1959 movie "The Wreck of the Mary Deare", in a scene where Gary Cooper and Charlton Heston are in a lifeboat and the plane - in Royal Navy Air-Sea Rescue markings! - flies overhead. I'll try to get a still from that sequence and post it.

Lots of good parts left! Not really destroyed.

Oh, Im sorry bdk. Those pics are not of Hawaii O-47's. I was just stating that the O-47 was in the heat of battle a few times in the Pacific.

Looks like it's in the same spot where the P-51A was last March... in the same hangar with the Fireball. Speaking of which, anyone know the status of that bird?

Thanks for the pics, this will be cool to see once done, and will look SPECTACULAR with the Guardsman in a flyby! Now they need a P-36 and a B-10...

I've seen...what...two of the three survivors? USAF Museum and Topeka airframes. For some reason, I'm oddly attracted to the O-47, though I haven't the slightest clue why. Same goes for the O-52.

Presently sitting outside while some stuff is being moved around, but undergoing a freshining up for static display. The volunteers are doing a nice job on it!

That's where I got it - recorded the scene to DVD, pulled a still from it in WinDVD, changed it to jpeg and cropped it in ArcSoft, and there it is!

Ack, I had Flight of the Phoenix just last weekend. I coulda grabbed some stills of the bird they had in it. Just curious, was the one in Mary Deare the same as the one in the Phoenix?

I believe it was the same O-47 in both films.
