Chipmunk Paintjob

Hello,

There's a little deHavilland Chipmunk in my neighbourhood that has an interesting colour scheme. I'm wondering if anyone knows if it was a real RCAF paint scheme or not.

This is the first time I've tried posting pictures, so bear with me.

The all red roundel did show up for a while after unification on Canadian Forces Yukons but thank God wasn't adopted. Don't believe it was ever used on any other aircraft. Besides real Chipmunks are yellow !!

The paint scheme might be a little much, but if you ever get a chance to fly the chipmunk take advantage of it. A friend had let me fly his a bit, and it is a nice handling plane. It is nimble and can land slow and short. I have it refererred to as a Baby Spitfire.

That’s George Spence’s Chippy CF-CXE. George passed away in just before Christmas 2005 at age 83. I think the paint was a creation of Georges but I don’t know the story behind it, but in real life, it doesn’t look too bad. The Chipmunk itself is in very good condition and was well looked after by George so who ever buys her is getting a nice plane. I believe he also had built a Glasair.

I'm pretty sure the all red roundel was also used on a few Cosmopolitans.
