P-47 Razorback Question

Hi Guys,

A few years ago I was chatting with a gentleman who was in, at the time, his late 50's or perhaps early 60's. And we got to talking about Oshkosh, the Airshows, and some of the restored Warbirds that usually attended this show. At the time, I was heading from MSP to Oshkosh for the show. At any rate, this man began to tell me about a P-47 Razorback model that was under restoration somewhere in East Central Wisconsin, ostensibly to airworthy/flight status.

The thought about it crossed my mind the other day and before I forgot (again) about it. I wanted to see if the story had any basis in fact or any creedence to it at all. So...I bring the question to all of you Warbird Slueths to help me out here. Or...is this just another one of those urban ledgends ?

Perhaps he might have been refering to the Evansville,IN, P-47 that was pulled from the Florida lake about 15 years ago?

There was a Thunderbolt under restoraton at Blackhawk Airways in Janesville back in the mid to late 90s for Dick Wixom, the former owner of the company. That airplane later went to Rialto under the ownership of FHC and flew again early last year. It was not a razorback, however, but a P-47D-40.

The Republic plant in Evansville, IN got a razorback out of Florida somewhere and they took it Evansville, In and it was in stroage and the building it was in burnt down..

As far as I know he still has the P-47B. I contacted him a few years back about it. He was collecting parts for this future project.

Fellow cheeseheads, before you get overly excited, just remember that Paul was the one who thought Anoka was located in our fair state.

I would be very surprised to learn of an unknown razorback in our area. Closest is Randy Ferris's bits down in Marengo, IL (already mentioned). I'd be quite happy to be proven wrong though.

Perhaps the fellow saw some of the Hellcat chunks that used to exist over near Green Bay?
