Cool Fighter

Here is one cool fighter, actually a very cold one.

These were taken at the Aspen Airport, after some fresh snow fell in early December.

Nice! A little cold for me, but very cool. No pun intended.

Is the back seat dual control Bill? (I haven't researched your plane)

I got a bud in Colorado that I gotta see soon.........

Can I have a ride one of these decades?

EDIT: I got the gas and the big lunch

Nice pictures! Planes and snow look great together...

Nice!

At least with a Spit you're not worried too much about the wings collapsing from the weight of the snow...

Bill has good options regardless of the weather:

CAVOK: Fly the Spit

Snow: go skiiing (be first in the powder!)

No kidding! We could use some of that while stuff here in the North East. its downright balmy in Southern Ontario and my skiis are starting to wonder if they've been forgotten or not

Bill, Do you keep it outside?

Spit

Spooky, yes there is only 1 large hangar here, and it is $300 nightl, so mostly diesel burners in there. There are some sort of carports for about $63k for a 20 year lease. I could try eslwhere, CAF offered, but I prefer to have my plane with me. Great place to live, but aviation wise it is not BKD or OSH.

Forget O.P., I live in Colorado! LOL

We got enough of our own snow. But I know you guys got a lot more of it up in the mountains.

Do you ever fly your Spit down to Greeley or Ft. Collins/Loveland area?

Bill,

What kind of performance do you actually see with your Spit?
How much manifold pressure do you pull, whats stall speed, cruise, fastest you've had it straight and level, rate of climb, highest altitude flown, fuel burn, etc.. I know it's alot of questions.

Thanks,
Mike

Manifold pressure??

Hopefully none!!!!

Pounds of boost in a Spitfire !!

As a reference

zero boost is about 30" of MP

Not sure if you saw this Bill but I will try and attach it to this thread.

Video from Peter Arnold, from a visit to Canada ( I think ) 1974.

Does keeping that peice of history out side 24/7 hurt it? and is their any special treatment to the Merlin for the off season? I know for my vintage Chevy's I go through abit of prep on the motor for the winter months. Can't imagine the work involved in doing a Merlin.

Cheers Dave C
