I remember that one –

Really cool nose art!

I wonder how realistic it would be to operate this as a air show regular? It would make a really cool assault demo plane - short landing, hot drop off and short take off !

She was...it breaks my heart to see her now!

Hope she gets sold to someone that has deep pockets. Well at least deep enough pockets to preserve her in flyable condition.

Are there many C-123's around? Could they be the next affordable multiengine warbird like the A-26?

The one I used to work on, was used for a couple movies and the owner decided to sell it :( . So last I heard it has moved to Alaska to haul freight  . Was an awesome airplane to take to airshows, we would take along our Jeep :D in the back so we would have transportion around the airshow events. Also made a great RV! :D

There are a couple of Providers in Alaska, at least one is believed to be active hauling freight out of Delta Junktion, AK

Is this the same 123 that was at LSFM for a while?

Gary et al - while I was stationed at Ft. Greeley, AK in the early 1970s, just a few miles south of Delta Junction, we had one or more C-123s fly in and out - they may have been operated by the AKNG, not sure, but they had wheel-skis and three jets (one on top) in addition to the normal recip engines. Frankly, for a design originally developed as an engine-less glider, this was a strange sight and didn't seem to be a great performer. No disrespect meant. Just an observation.

The C-123 in Delta Junction, AK is the one we use to have. Sure was fun back in those days :D

The Provider at Delta Junction is N123K. She was based at Denton, Texas, for a while several years ago, "allegedly" doing contract work for Texas Instruments Defense Systems & Electronics Group as a flying test bed (that's only "hearsay", get it? ). I have some pics of her somewhere in my completely random, totally disorganized photo collection. I got my butt chewed by some line boy for taking photos of her (sitting completely out in the open at a public airfield with no "Keep Away" signs or anything else posted). For some reason, when I showed him my TI employee badge, he stopped yelling at me and said, "Oh, I'm sorry, sir. Have a nice day." 8) . A few days later when I dropped by KDTO, I discovered that an 8 foot high chain-link fence with douple row barbed wire had magically sprung up all the way around the C-123, and all of the cabin windows had been covered over from the inside with what looked like brown paper grocery bags! Hmmm... I wonder why they did that? Anyway, she was looking very healthy and well-cared-for at that time. The finish was white and bare metal, no camouflage of any kind, and no markings other than the N123K on the vertical.

Cheers!

Not that you can see the markings of the 123 but this article states this is the only known photo taken of a Medal of Honor action in progress.
