Anyone got anything to say? Im suprised, usually people go crazy for pictures and videos of the P-40.

She looks great. Why do you think that she will not get to fly? what is the final paint scheme of this aircraft going to be? It is sweet, as the p-40 is one of my favorite aircraft.

Well just the cost and inexperience of the maude family, we will be unable to fly it. The polished aluminum is the final scheme. It was stripped of its camo back in 1945.

On another post you said that the engine had not been run in 4 or 5 years.
What is the issue? Something minor like needs a battery or magnetos rebuilt? Or something major like engine siezed? Also, how are the brakes? If we could get it running could it be taxied?

It's a great plane Glenn and I understand what a treasured part of your family it is. But, I really think it should be in the air where she belongs. What a great tribute it would be both to your grandfather and the men who flew and maintained her!

Yes, the engine hasn't been run for 5 years, strictly for the fact that the cost to run it has increased. It could easily be started with a flush of the system and a quick tune up. The brakes are perfect, as far as I know they were changed back in 1974, and have not seen a drop of water ever, nor much misture, so there good to go. It could be taxied easily , and as seen in the movie, minus the engine running we taxied it.

Check the boards about the 20th of Febuary. You'll be in for a suprise of a life time. Ill have 200-300 pictures of the Kittyhawk, along with cockpit pictures, more movies and the entire history, all up on a website.

Great video. I'd love to see her fly again too, but I can totally understand the risks and the costs associated with doing so.
I'd love to find a way that you guys could get in touch with someone experienced enough to fly it safely, and who would be willing to support the upkeep/maintenance of it. Maybe Bud Granley? I know he'd be an excellent candidate considering his experience with warbirds. Or maybe his son Ross. Good thing is, he just lives in Blaine, WA.
Or, if you could find a local museum that could look after it, while still having the ownership belonging to the Maude family. In this way, it could be displayed to the public and flown, under strict guidance from the museum and your family. I understand that George had a falling out with the Victoria museum, and I don't know why, and don't really want to know. It's none of my businesss.
In any case, I know that George loves showing people his P-40. It's too bad AK803 can't be in a museum so more people can see the plane and learn about George's passion for aviation history.
As a member/volunteer of the Canadian Museum of Flight in Langley, BC I'd love to see your grandfather's airplane displayed at our museum, but I can imagine your family would want to keep it on the Island. None-the-less, I think our museum could do a great job of displaying her and telling the story of coastal defense during WWII.
In any case, I'm so glad that your grandfather takes such great care of his P-40 and that it remains in Canada.

Obviously, she'd be wonderful to see fly, but the aircraft is so original, such a time capsule, and has such a strong connection to BC and the Maude family that it would be a real shame to see her damaged, or destroyed in a flying accident. If she were restored to fly, they would most likely replace her skins... they seem to do this these days, whether absolutely necessary or not. There are several dozen P-40's either flying, or about to fly. Why not have at least one, wholly original P-40 around to show what they were really like? I love the polished aluminum scheme too. It's a unique artifact, and one I have long wished to see in person. Many congratulations to the Maude family for looking after her so well. Thanks for posting the video... I look forwards to the website when it goes live.

Too much of the plane's originality would have to be sacrificed to make her airworthy and fly her safely. She's much more historically valuable preserved in her original state.
