The Hunters movie

Anyone got more info on the The Hunters movies made in mid 50s with a gaggle of F-86 incorrectly painted etc for a Korea war novel to Movie show?

Also any more info on the Jet Fighters? the John Wanye movie?

Now that is a coincidence. Just picked that movie up last week from Amazon.com The movie starred Robert Mitchum and Robert Wagner. Hookey love story but a few good flying scenes with real F-86s and F-84s painted as Migs.??? The reason I got the movie was one of the stars (pilots) is a member of our CAF wing and was telling us about making it back in 1958. His whole squadron was involved in the production and he flew as number four in the scenes.
the one thing he was impressed with is the love interest in the movie May Brit. Says she was an absolute doll.

You should head over to Heritage Airfield (TE86) New Berlin, for our Fly-in in March. Last Year, we had these two gentleman among others as guests. Hopefully, they make out this year. I'll post the guest list once known.

I own the movie as well, and agree on the hookey love story, standard Hollywood formula for flying movies. ie 663, war lover, toko-ri, top gun, etc..

I was stationed at Kirtland AFB (ABQ) when that movie was made. Every day they flew, we'd get a NOTAM saying: F-84s painted as MiGs. Movie props. Do not fire upon." If memory serves, the F-86's had the Arizona ANG markings.
The troops at the radar site down at PHX (I think the site was "FREESTYLE") would call in the plots to us for display on the 34th AD(D) activity board.
Pretty cool.

Actually I thought the movie was pretty good - for it's time (1958).

To see that many real F-86's flying; and F-84's (some painted grey as Migs - others not) was pretty nice. As for the hokey love story - sure. That was formulaic for those days. At least Mae Britt was fun to look at - even though she couldn't act (at least not in this movie).

It was one of a pair of movies Directed by Dick Powell, starring Mitchum - the other was "The Enemy Below" made in 1957. By the way in both movies, the number "140" has pretty substaqntial significance..I wondered why that might be.

In any event, for the late 50's I thought it was pretty good.
