With regards to that shuttle,

was it just a coincedence that it looks a lot like the American built shuttle, or was it like a contract built shuttle? It seems a lot like the American version, but it seems "different" And if it's actually a US built shuttle, how'd it get there?

Let me know, I'm curious.

Cheers,

David

In classic Soviet fashion, it was more than likely reverse-engineered for the most part using smuggled blue prints, or at least a fair bit of hijacked intel and some good photos.

a sad commentary. they have been trying to hack it ever since the fall of the berlin wall. thank god for that event!! look at the military hardware rotting away. the russians have been selling everything since the early 90's to cover their asskies following the fall of their regime. they are selling their national treasures, faberge eggs, art works, civilian offered space flights which a number of mega wealthy people have taken the opportunity. they are rife with crime, corruption, etc. they just can't get any internal control. not that the u.s. is so great an example, but we some how muddle through it all with our governing checks & balances.

I was about to ask if they ever actually orbited the thing, but the video answered my question. I seem to remember it was flown unmanned, though.

As for the Former Soviet Union, it seems that a Representitive Democracy (or more accuruately a Republic) is much easier to establish if you start out that way like the U.S. Getting people to embrace the idea after generations of dictatorship or totalitarian government is much harder..as Dubbya is finding out in Iraq.

Man,

Imagine if somebody wealthy got one of those Bear's over here, restored it, and toured the country with it? Another dream of mine!

...and this is not a B-29.

Legend has it that when the Russians built the Tu-4, they copied the B-29 so exactly that they included the flak damage patches. It may be apocryphal, but it makes a good story...

It was my understanding that the Buran that actually went into orbit was destroyed a few years ago when the roof of the enormous hangar it was stored in collapsed under the weight of stuff stored on top...waste
