Zassco

There used to be a surplus business at the Hobby Airport, called Zassco (on Lockheed avenue).

It has closed and now Landry's aviation department occupies the same premises.

So, has Zassco ceased operations? Have they moved elsewhere?

Any information will be appreciated.

Sid just got old, Tulio. He sold the existing inventory to a local individual and I think it has since been dispersed. I don't know if the wharehouse was sold seperately or as part of the same deal. Landry's may have bought it or maybe they're leasing the property. Not really sure. In any event ZASSCO is history.

Thank you, Rick.

I just went by this week, hoping to find a warehouse full of surplus stuff, but it was not to be.

Do you know of any similar place in Houston?

No, nothing like ZASSCO left that I know of. Central Aviation, Falconcrest, Aviall, have pretty much taken over the market. Remember Sidney had been in business since the 50s, at least. One guy owned it and he was around during the hayday of the big recips on Hobby Airport. Old stock was allowed to just sit on the shelves. Modern inventory managers will never allow that to happen.

The closest places in inventory and location is San Antonio. Alamo Aircraft and Dixie Airparts.

Thank you, Rick.

San Antone is next stop.
