Hey guys,
Just got back from a weeks vacation in Virginia. Visited the new Smithsonian facility, the Fighter Factory and Kitty Hawk. Had a great time and good hot weather, over 1,200 pics to sort through.
Anyway, I heard from someone that the CWH Lanc had a problem with a crosswind landing at Brantford last Wednesday night. I have been unable to get more details and was wondering if any of you guys, Steve, Al, have some news on the event? I looked back a few pages but could not find any info posted on WIX. Man, it was tough not having internet for 10 days.

Ok, So this is the reply I got from a buddy who was there. Sure glad it was nothing to bad.
The Lanc touched down to the right of runway centerline and the pilot
applied brakes immediatly. It then started to veer sharply to the right
(gust subsided?) and then the fun began. The pilot has slowed VR-A
sufficiently to touch the tail wheel but seemed to lose rudder authority -
and still veering right. There was power application on 3 and 4, tail came
back up, Lanc veered left! We could hear the brakes howelling all this time.
Pilot corrected right but a touch too much so back to the left again. After
couple more oscillations, VR-A finally skidded on to the grass.
Exciting? Yes!!!

Hey Eric,
I saw the Lancaster parked on the apron after it's arrival in Brantford... everything seemed fine. It departed later that evening after the airshow and returned to Hamilton. Any landing you walk away from is a good landing.
Heard they had a good number of people tour through the Lanc. She always attracts a crowd whereever she goes.
By the way Eric you missed one good airshow!

Hey Eric, when were you at Udvar-Hazy? There is a chance we may have been there at the same time!

Hey Ryan,
I was there on Sunday August 28th. My wife was surprised I did not bump into any one I knew. I did tell her it was not a flying event so I had less chance of bumping into someone I knew. darn we were that close
Hey Al,
I know the event is great. I attend last year and really regreted not being there this year. However, I did tour the Fighter Factory instead so that was a good trade off. My buddy sent me a photo of the Lanc stiring up dust off the side of the runway. Was there a good crosswind when you were there?

Winds were pretty light when I got there at about 1400 and stayed that way until I left. In fact aircraft departed from both ends of the active runway during the show.

Yep, I was there...

We were only there 'til 12 Noon though, as we had spent the whole day prior there and wanted to nab a few shots before heading to Leesburg to fly home. Too bad I guess, we could have shared a Subway sandwich over by the 'corde in the "food court".
