CAF Junkers JU-52 Question

Does anybody know why the CAF Great Lakes Wing doesn't offer rides in their Junkers JU-52. Is it because it's a foreign built aircraft? Any information would be appreciated!

From what I have been told, it is because it is a foreign built aircraft and the FAA will not allow it. But then again the Arizona Wing was offering rides in their CASA/He-111 before it crashed. So I am not 100% sure on the reasoning, thats just what I heard.

Mike - to be able to sell rides in CAF planes requires that the Unit assigned the plane requests permission and follows a number of requirements and procedures set out in both FARs and CAF regs. In some cases a unit may not have the required manpower to do this or may not think that the possible income would be worth the added expense to participate in the program. I can't speak for the folks in the Great Lakes Wing but those are some of the factors that come to mind.

We are currently looking at having two of our High Sky Wing planes, the SNJ and PT-19, in the rides for hire program but are still looking at all the paperwork and requirements. Fortunately, we have three commercial pilots and A&Ps available who are willing to jump thru some of the hoops, which include random drug tests, etc. Hope that helps.

The Arizona Wing didn't sell rides in the He-111. Rides were and still are sold in the B-17, SNJ-5 and C-45.
