Hi Wixers,

For those of you who are interested, there is a great article on Mike Potter and Vintage Wings over Canada in this month's issue of WestJet's in-flight magazine. I will try to get a copy of the magazine when I fly back to Vancouver to post here for you all.

W C, I am not familar with that airline or its magazine, However as for your slogan "round engines rule"; if Mike Potter shares your view , can I have his planes that have those other kind of pointy engines?

Hi Bill,

WestJet is a Canadian success story and our answer to South West, only with much better service. They fly a fleet of brand-new 737s to destinations in Canada, Florida, and Hawaii. They are the only airline to post a continuous profit in the last five years. As for the round engines, I don't know if Mr. Potter shares my view, but he does have several of each type. I suppose my bias comes from years of exposure to warbirds of the round-engined variety. However if I had a ride in a Merlin-powered airplane, I might be easily persuaded to alter my view.

When it comes to aircraft Mr. Potter's tastes are diverse. I don't think it really matters to him if the engine is round or pointy. The questions now are... How well does it fly? What story can be told by flying it?

He does however seem to fly the Spitfire more than the others, so when ever giving a tour I will announce to the tour group that SL721 is the queen of the fleet.
