Nice timing - just took pics of the N3N-3 out at Creve Coeur Airport's HARM museum this past Monday. Original floats but tough to photograph in the corner. My understanding is that it has been sold or sale is pending. Maybe Al Stix Jr. can fill in the details or roll it out side for pics?! :-)

Enjoy the Day! Mark

Thanks for posting the pics.................I would love to know where the N on floats is going!!! I really want to get my dad a ride in one off the water. Dad got his float rating down in fla and has been itching to get ours on floats..............thank god the floats are not easy to come by.:)

There doing the work for the owner. Aparently the A/C has not flown in a couple of years. So PIA is going to freshen her up and go through the Wright and get her making that beautiful noise.

First N3N is Kermit Weeks in his restoration shop. This one is apparently going to be on floats.

N3N Stuff and Questions about modern restorations

Sat Mar 17, 2007 5:32 pm

I have the data plate to N3N-3 Serial No. 2757, dated 1-1-41. I also have an original radio designed for the N3N-3. If you need photos, let me know.

Questions:

1. Are the 26X 6 tires still available, or are they impossible to find?

2. Are there any decent projects available for sale? What are the hard parts (other than corrosion of fuselage from spraying) to find for them?

Tires are available. It will be a bit on the ### side with the Bendix wheels which I believe are actually 30x5. You can thank all the Travelaire owners for the shortage of props, exhaust, engines & wheels :)

Plenty of projects out there!! Even some 2 hole'rs. We have the N3N owners & restorers assn that is much like the Sentinal Club. We have been in a few trades that did not involve $$$$. Just the thrill of another N taking the air.
Many members are also on my N3N club on yahoo, join up and post away. If you really are interested in a project, let me know. I will look up where a large collection went to in Idaho. Think it was like 7 airframes including one ferryable. Mostly dusters but there was one or 2 stock ones.

I too have a couple of data plates that I bought off ebay that were made into belt buckles:) Would love to see pics of the radio.

As far a parts go. You wont have any problems searching for stuff unlike the L-5. You can even still find some NOS stuff that has been left over from all the duster companys that fell in love with the N and bought everything the Navy had left over.

Corrosion. I am sure is a factor and from what I am told it straight foreward since the frame is extruded aluminum. So it could be as easy as using a donor fuselage or buy some new metal. This would be easier for you will find that each N was hand drilled so your holes are not going to match. There are sources for the metal still. A few yrs ago we replaced our center section front spar that was(patched for a crack) This is a rugged area of I beam almuminum where the lower wings meet and the aft part of the gear brace to the fuselage.

The one thing to look at carefully is if it was a duster, what engine did it have??? We have a airframe that had a 1340 on it. If you look close at some of the rivets in the structure, you can see that it has been stressed. We still have the frame and sacraficed some of the aluminum for repaired areas of our flying one.

Here is some pics of a group that was recently saved. If anyone is interested in a N project, let me know. I will find where I wrote the new owners name.

This one sold as ferryable, was told that it would have made for a interesting flight if it did indeed happen.

Nice 2 holer, though sheetmetal is slid a bit foreward, looks to be uncut.
