Remember the Gathering of Twin Tails

Sat Mar 17, 2007 7:52 am

Howdy everyone! This is just a reminder to everyone (for planning purposes) that the official unveiling of the CAF's B-24A (Ol' 927...formally known as Diamond Lil) after it's reconfiguration into a bomber is going to be at the Gathering of Twin Tails, on May 12, 2007, at the Midland International Airport (MAF), CAF main hangar.

ANY twin tailed aircraft is invited and encouraged to come. We will be having the typical rot-gut burgers and dogs, along with moderately cool soft drinks.

The airplanes should start taxiing in around 8 a.m. and the unveiling will be at 10 a.m. There will also be the opportunity to purchase rides in various aircraft throughout the day (depending on weather and which aircraft attend).

So come on out and be among the first to see Ol' 927 after her new makeover!

To assist us in our planning, if you are planning to attend, please RSVP me at retroaviation@aol.com .

Gary I am jealous as hell! About the only twin tail I could have a remote chance of getting would be an Ercoupe! Three more years and 300 grand and I’ll fly over in the PBJ. I hope!

Dan,
That kind of money and time and we will bring Lady Lodestar in from the east while you come in from the west. Hate having a wounded girl on our hands but we will survive.

Gary,
Can you give us a hint as to which Twin Tails may be attending so far?

So far, it's not looking like much. Haven't gotten much response from folks saying they're coming. I know there will be at least a couple of Beech 18's, and it looks like maybe a few Skymasters, but other than that, there haven't been many RSVP's.

We do have a variety of twin tailed airplanes that are here right now, which of course will be on display at the event. The Harpoon, Shackleton, F-14, YO-55 (Ercoupe), 0-2, P-82, and a couple more Beech 18's. I'm hoping to get at least one of the CAF B-25's here, but no reply from them yet either.

The hope was to have as many twin tailed airplanes here as possible to honor one of it's own (Ol' 927), but if that doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. We'll still have the unveiling regardless. I just thought it was a good idea. Perhaps I was wrong.

Had several people ask if I was going with the O-2 and since I used to fly Lil Yellow Rose (YO-55).....really wish I could be there for the unveiling but I had already committed to another show by the time I heard about this. Hope all goes well on May 12th and I look forward to seeing the B-24 later in the year. The pictures I have seen here are great and I have enjoyed the thread about the work being done.

KB, tell every body that you'll be there sort of anyway since you allegedly posed for the nose art on the YO-44.

DZ...I can't claim that since you gave the wrong aircraft designation...LOLOL. But I'll give credit to the now defunct wing in Beaumont for having someone...other than me...pose for that little blonde.
