This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Hey WIX brain,
One of my former squadronmates is retired AF Reserve after 29 years--active duty aircraft maintenance on C-123, C-47, A-26, then flight mechanic on C-7s and C-123s, then finally reservist C-130 flight engineer 25 years. He's interested in volunteer ground crew opportunities on multiengine warbirds. Anyone have any ideas or contacts? He doesn't hold any FAA A&P or Flight Engineer tickets, but sure knows his way around airframes and powerplants. thanks!

Paul, folks like your friend are worth their weight in gold!
I can think of several, but I guess it would help to know what part of the country he is located in. Or does he have the ability to travel?

Oops, sorry...he's in Milwaukee Wisconsin but has free travel benefits on Continental Airlines since his son is a pilot for one of their regional jet connection carriers.

Um...Continental comes in to Midland.
We'd sure put him to work on the B-24.

Hi Paul,
Have him contact EAA's manager of flight operations Sean Elliott - Sean is in charge of EAA's B-17 and its annual tours. Sean can be reached at (920)-426-4886, or at selliott at eaa.org (replace at with @).
Your friend might be able to get involved with the tour as one of the traveling mechanics that go along with Aluminum Overcast.
Hope this helps,
Zack

Lou Farkas (734 483 4030 ext 257) or Ray Christiansen (ext. 234) would probably be good folks to contact at Yankee if he's interested.

Thanks guys! He probably would prefer not to be on the road six weeks straight like some of the crews do. I'll pass on the info.
Gary, he's interested in talking to you about helping with the B-24 and will contact you via email.

Gotta be something in his USAF shot record to cover that, otherwise years of beer and Bratwurst consumption here in God's country and good, clean Air Force TDY livin' will kill/cure just about anything.
