This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

This is the first of 3 postings of Confederate Air Force Air Shows at Scholes Field, Galveston, TX (this is the present home of the Lone Star Museum).
The photos were scanned from slides and the color has changed (reddish tint). I have only posted a few from each show. Hope you enjoy If any aircraft is mis-identifed please let me know so I can update.

From what I have heard, the remains are at CAF HQ in a couple of conex boxes. But Gary would probably know better if it is still there.

Craig, your probably thinking of Scatterbrain Kid II. It crashed at Breckinridge years after its namesake was lost.

And those remains are with another private collector now. There is nothing here at CAF HQ that belongs to either of those P-38's that I'm aware of (and I've snooped around this place pretty good now

)

Great pictures Bill. Thanks for posting. I'm sorry I missed all those great early shows in Galveston. When did the C.A.F. begin the Tora displays..76/78, had to be after the movie debut. (but this could be a another topic)?

Was "Scatterbrain Kid II" the 3 seat version? The P-38 I was thinking of had the droop snoot plus a seat behind the pilot.

This P-38 is Scatterbrain Kid not II This is based on the N38LL in 1971. Scatterbrain Kid II did not receive N38LL until around 1976 or so

The original N38LL was owned by Revis Sirmon, not the CAF. Scatterbrain Kid II was named in honour of Revis (at least that was the way it was told to me)

That sounds like Yanks' P-38 prior to its most recent restoration.
