German P-38 Greenland Expedition this summer ?

Sat Mar 31, 2007 11:11 pm

I was at the YAF polishing party on Saturday and I got to talking with a friend of mine who told me that a German team is being put together to go after 4 of the 5 P-38's still at Greenland. The one that this team won't go after is the one that flipped over on its back when landing in 1942. Has anyone else heard of this as I know there has been talk over the last several years of this team or that team doing what was done in 1992.
Also I was told that the selling price of Glacier Girl was North of 10 million dollars which I certainly can't prove one way or another, but it doesn't sound that far fetched when considering the amoung of money the Shoffner family put into a 10 year restoration plus the company's that contributed to Glacier Girl just wondering what others might think on this as well.
Lastly I may have missed this on WIX, but it certainly looks like that Glacier Girl will be attempting to cross the pond sometime this summer with Steve Hinton as the pilot.

Find some information regarding the recovery project here:

The plan was to start the recovery in April 2007 but this is now cancelled. Due to less sponsoring then expected they earn not enough money to go on now.

I disagree - it sounds extremely far fetched. The amount of money put in to a warbird restoration and its final value are not directly proportional.
