This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Nope, not an April Fools' Day prank:

They mention the metal skinning found a few years back... wasn't that thorougly debunked as not originating from an Electra? The bit about the shortwave communications was interesting, though.

I read that also. You can say what you want about TIGHAR but what if they find something. They are looking that's more then most. I havn't seen another group spending the money to look.
I think it's a credit to TIGHAR to be persistant in finding clues in an almost hopless search. We are all looking for lost aircraft. TIGHAR is on their own quest. Personaly I hope someone finds something and right now they have the lead.

I hope they find something as well. As for the crew, didn't some Japanese soldier say they killed them? I thought I remember hearing that.

Steve, I'll be among the first to congratulate them if they do come up with something, but I recall some fairly pointed statements made about their research methodologies and claimed results in the past. Let's just say I view this endeavour with informed skepticism.
At least it keeps Amelia's story in the public eye, if nothing else...

Hi,
Please, please, please, send us more money so Emilia can come home .

They have alredy found a shoe so the rest must be very close by. It can only be done with you hard earned donations if not this trip then for sure the next.
Thanks Mike

I just hope they find her soon so they can go after the White Bird next.
Lynn; when/if TIGHAR ever finds her bones I'll buy you a beer. I wouldn't hold my breath.

I have a story to illustrate a couple of facts on this: About 10 years ago I was at Sun N Fun rooming with Jeff Ethel, noted aviation writer. Tighar was on tv with news of their latest finds, so Jeff and I discussed it. The ladies shoe found was a large size, 9?, and Amelia was know to have small feet as seen by her shoes size 5 in the Kansas museum. The sheet medal map case, similar to one on Amelia's plane was also used on PBYs which were all over that area. Jeff's book said Amelia was likely executed by the Japanese, but he freely admitted the natives may tell you any story they think you want to hear, and tha twhile his version was plausible, she may have simply perished in the sea. One major fact Jeff uncovered is the Japanese lied about the search, while they claimed to have a certain ship combing the area, it was actually in port in Japan the whole time. Tighar is free to search, folks are free to donate, but personally I think O J is likely to find the real killer out on a Florida golf course before Tighar finds Earhart.

Most people in the warbird world, (airplane owners, restorers, pilots, writers researchers etc....) know that Tighar is a joke from 15 years ago. Gillespie is a fraud. He's a great salesman, articulate, intelligent, who could sell you your own shirt off your back. He should get together with Jim Morrison's "son" Cliff, they deserve each other.

I don't really have any input on this subject. I don't know much about TIGHAR and their antics, but I do have to say that what Bill said was pretty darn funny.
Cheers,
David
