I just finished a 3 hour extremely thorough DC-7 Instrument Type Rating recurrency checkride.Our chief pilot had to get his Designated Examiner priviledges renewed and had to conduct a DC-7 Captain IFR checkride while an FAA inspector observed.Let's just say that it didn't leave ANYTHING out.It was gratifying that the FAA inspector told me that it was obvious that I could fly the airplane.It wasn't perfect,but Dave Kelly (our chief pilot) and I both passed.

Warbird or not, that is awsome. I love the whole Dougls propliner series. Congrats on a good job.

Thanks for the congratulations.I should have mentioned that I couldn't have done much without a LOT of help from my co-pilot,Rick Langstrom,who has six fire seasons worth of DC-7 experience.As we fly without a flight engineer,both of us are like the proverbial "One armed paper hangers" during some of the procedures.By coincidence,this happens to be my 59th birthday.Also,by coincidence,I recieved my initial DC-7 Instrument Type Rating checkride on April 23,1984.Spooky.....

C-118? Wouldn't that be a DC-6? None the less both magnificant machines, luckily saw one last year. Don't get to hear that sound much anymore around these parts.

I would guess that there are more active DC-6 pilots at the moment,but,as its a dual Type Rating (DC-6/DC-7),the '6 guys are also technically qualified in the '7 and vice versa.I would think that for strictly DC-7 pilots who are actively employed flying DC-7's,you could probably count them on both hands and have a finger or two left over.As for posting some pictures,I uploaded some to photobucket.Now,all that I have to do is figure out how to make them magically appear on WIX.
