Another P-38 ID question

Sat Apr 28, 2007 5:59 pm

Hi All,

The other P-38 thread got me thinking.. I remember a news report from back when I was a teenager about a P-38 crashing in northwest Ohio..the report said the pilot and his wife were killed, so it would have had to have been a two-seater. It would have been sometime around 1980 or so. Any ideas on the ID of the aircraft and pilot?

<edit>

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's this aircraft:

I remember the news report said the pilot was killed, along with "his wife Glennis." Since the aircraft was wearing the name "Glamorous Glennis" when it crashed, I'm assuming the reporter just go confused.

Thanks for the info. I found a WIX thread from last year with more details. I remember seeing the news report on a Toledo TV station (I've got it on audio tape somewhere.) A witness said she heard the aircraft "sputter" just before the crash, but she was obviously a layman didn't know anything about aviation.
