P-51D or P-47 at Midland?

Fri Jul 20, 2007 8:23 pm

Hi Everyone,
Noticed a Mustang or Thunderbolt at MAF today. From HWY80 I could not make out any squadron markings. It was 1:45PM CST. Anyone know which one and where it was headed?

Stephen, check your e-mail, that was Stewart Dawson in Rod Lewis JUG. He stopped here momentarily.

Hey thanks Steven! It only took a glance to see those blades. Glad you were able to see the Jug at BKD.

It never fails. I had left the lab to go get some parts I needed, and when I get back a co-worker says: "One of those old planes you like took off ritght before you got back". My office is within eyesite of the Hwy 80 end of the runway. &^%$^%$!!!!!!

Congratulations to Rod on his acquisition. Stewart is definitely one lucky guy to get to fly a plane like that (as are all warbird pilots in my opinion :) ).

Also, great pictures there Steve.

Thanks CapFlyer, With an operational Turbo Stewart says it one hot S.O.B. in the cockpit!! Plus he said it was a Pig to fly!! So if that's lucky?

It's a small plane with a big engine. He's lucky. :)

At least its better than a Convair (although I still envy the guys I used to work with at HMA because they got to fly Convairs... ).

To me, the most important part is a big bad Pratt radial. If it's got one, it's a good plane in my book. :)

Hey, pass this on then. My Pop flew these and P38's in China & Burma and prefered the Jug to the Lightning hands down. So, if he really doesn't like it, I'd be glad to take it off his hands.

If the turbo is live, how about the ethanol/water injection. That should "unpiggify" it pretty quick.

I have to say that the photos show why this plane sold for eighty gazillion eurodollaryendrakmathings or whatever. It really is a work of art.

Sorry gents, genetically predisposed here. 8)

I guess when you are used to flying a Reno Racer this would seem a little tame. Personally I wouldn't kick her out of bed.
