OSH pic requests

Sun Jul 29, 2007 9:36 am

As I recall, the OSH pic requests were for:
Mustangs
T-28's
Stearmans

I defer to Steve Dennis for Stearman pics, as for the others...

As much as my body tried to resist, I hung around Mustang Ranch just long enough to look at the newest addition to the group, Quicksilver.

And as for Trojans: Well, I shot three rows in the rain Thursday AM and gave up (I mean, when there are 20 or so... *yawn* )

Hi,
Thanks for posting the Quicksilver pic. Beautiful plane.

Due to my lack of mustang history knowledge, I may be asking a silly question.

Can anyone here enlighten me on the the paint job? D-day stripes and a post 1947 roundel. Is this a racing scheme or custom paint job? I don't know the history of the aircraft or if it is suppose to represent a famous plane. If anyone has links on the details, I would be appreciate it.

Thanks.

I belive it is just a bit of artistic liscense taken by the owner (Custom job). I saw it mentioned in another Oshkosh thread.

T'is indeed. I believe it is losely based on an original scheme but has significant artistic license as you say. The owner is Bill "Yoder" Yoke. He's a total master with sheet metal...none better...and a heck of a nice guy to boot. How many Mustang owners hang signs on their airplanes saying, "Yes...please touch me, it's OK!" along with allowing people to get into the cockpit for free. Bill is another guy who "Gets it".

I know absolutely nothing about water boilers, but that blue thing looks a whole bunch like a Jasco Alternator. Very popular on smaller round engines (Conti 670, PW450, 1340 etc) with the SAE#5 generator drive. Never saw it with the terminal strip screwed to the cooling shroud.

Of course, technically unless your Stearman was running double time voltage (24V) or the P51 was cut in half (12V), they are different series...6XXX for 12V and 7XXX for 24V.

The STEARMAN, T-6 , and mustang all can run the same 27" tire.
