USS Lexington Fire

Wed Aug 01, 2007 9:30 pm

Heard on the radio on the way home from the flight school this afternoon that there was a fire down the road in Corpus Christi on board the USS Lexington. Said it was a 2 or 3 alarm fire (don't remember which) - and that several firefighter crews were responding - and that around 200+ people on board were evacuated. Anyone know anything further? I think that they also said that it was below the hanger deck.

Happened this morning about 11:00 am.

In a small storage room below the hangar deck. 2 alarm fire and was out in about an hour. Visitors and workers were back on the boat in a few hours.

I sure hope nobody got hurt. I spent a few weeks of my life on board that ship for a film project and got to explore many of the off limits area, a fair amount of it with flashlights. It is kind of scary being down in the depths of a ship of that size with nothing but a flash light especially when half of the doors a ladders are sealed shut. It gives you the whole rat in a maze effect.
