This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

No this is not a top secret new design for a Sweet Potato harvester, but Harry Barr's Mustang having its Merlin exercised at Tri-State Aviation. It will be finished in NEBANG colors and will be ready to go in about a week.
John Bagley's P-51 fuselage is also ready to go...

Here is a shot of it pre-accident.

Barbara Jean is another fine example of the quality of work being done in Wahpeton and Kindred, North Dakota.

I guess I was wrong all these years when I thought Mustangs took off like all other planes, but I can see that it works just like my old Testors line controlled Mustang, it too had a string that went to a anchor on the ground. Run it up to full throttle, and flick the control to nose down and it would release the string and off it would go. Where is the release in the Mustang ? must be top secret, as I have worked on and been in several and could not find it.

You win the gold token!
That poor fire hydrant has been pulled on with Sea Furies, Corsairs, Mustangs, TBMs. None have been able to remove it yet...although it is rumored to be tilting to the east a wee bit at this point!
My hat is off to the Tri-State crew for the remarkable way they are carrying on in Gerry's absence. "Business as usual" "Moving forward" are nice sounding click phrases but these cat's are making good on them! Note the Thrush in the background being serviced and John Bagleys repaired fuselage being loaded onto a flatbed for delivery...there is already another fuselage in the jig! Gerry would be quite pleased!

Eric: Good to talk to you at the show on Saturday. Hope you enjoyed the Evening with Eagles dinner. I'll be up next weekend.

How is Harry doing, and was the cause of the engine problem ever found?
Mon Aug 20, 2007 12:21 pm
Does this mean Harry will have 2 stangs to play with!?
Mon Aug 20, 2007 12:28 pm
they still should chock it.
Mon Aug 20, 2007 12:52 pm
Harry intends to keep only one Mustang and is already working a deal to sell the “other” one.
Chock it? NO!!! If the strap breaks (Very unlikely) or cuts lose somehow, cut the power, let it roll forward until it's safe to apply the brakes. If it was chocked, it could easily go on it nose. Just keep the ramp clear in front of the airplane.
