Read this morning that Congress has passed the legislation requiring the Navy to transfer ownership of the Brewster F3A recovered from the swamp near Cherry Point, NC to the individual who salvaged it. This is a victory for the warbird community.

That's exactly where I read it this morning. The Navy needs to bite the bullet and adopt the Air Force's policy on recovery of long-abandoned artifacts. It's totally unrealistic for the Navy to completely ignore a wrecked aircraft for close to 50 years and then jump up and claim ownership after someone expends a lot of time and money to extract the wreckage from the swamp.

I'm glad Congressman Jones of North Carolina put through this provision to the Defense Authorization bill.

I do, indeed, know about your upcoming meeting with the Navy. I am very interested in this process and have felt for years that the Navy's policy on ownership of wrecked and written off aircraft has been in error. The Air Force policy makes much more sense, and allow a cooperative effort between the military and the warbird community in the restoration of valuable artifacts.

I wrote a letter to Congressman Walter Jones, of North Carolina, who sponsored the legislation directing the return of the Brewster to Mr. Cralley. I thanked him for his support and efforts in behalf of aircraft restoration endeavors. We could use more support and backing like his in this effort to change the Navy policy.

I just sent Rep Jones a thank him and a ask that he and other’s in Congress to step in and save more pieces of history for the Navy and NHC before it is too late. I'm going to be contacting my Reps /Senators with a similar message. I plea to you all is to do the SAME!
