Whats the status of the restoration of the P-61 at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum? Has anyone been there lately?

greetings pat,

Didn't realize you're close by WI! (waukegan vs waukesha)

I make a yearly trip to the P61 mecca called MAAM every july when we take the wee ones out to philly to see the my wifes folks. This july they were getting pretty far along on the fuselage, It appeared they just added in the bulletproof windshield and other cockpit glass. As well as other cockpit stuff. They also have been working alot on getting all the partsfor the nacelles in order. They had the left one pretty far along, filling much of the south end of the workshop. Nearby were lots of other parts that seemed ready to be assembled for them. They'er doing a great job on it. From what I understand they had some problems gettingspars fabricated and that it took a longer than expected. The back end by the radar operators compartment seemed to be coming along nicely as well. I know it will be a couple years before it will fly, but hopefully soon it will at least be up on its wheels and look like the real thing.

I'll qualify as a P-61 nut and can't wait to see this thing fly. I have some
recent pics somewhere, although I don't think they're digital. I've been
going there at least once a year for a few years now, following its progress. I have a buddy that flew B24's in the 66th BG and we make it our annual pilgrimidge. :-).

take care,

henning
