New illustration...just for fun

Thu Sep 27, 2007 6:08 pm

Well, I was feeling guilty recently about using the computer to draw everything, so I decided to try an illustration the old fashioned way. Most of my paints have long since dried up, but I found a bottle of ink and a quill pen and a magazine with a picture I liked, so I dusted off the cobwebs and had a go at it. Before inking in all the details, I scanned the outline of the art, which I later converted to vector art, colored, and turned into a shirt. Then I crosshatched away.

I never really was satisfied with the result, and my quill pen reminded me how much I miss the undo button by waiting until I was signing my name to barf ink all over the place. I had a lot of fun, though, so I did another sketch, and picked up some nice pens from the art supply store, and tried it again. Since I'll be working in the Tuskegee recognition tent tomorrow at GML, I decided to draw Roscoe Brown making the first Me262 kill for the 15th AF.

Anyway, here it is, for your amusement:

It's kinda hard watching someone scribble all over your artwork LOL...but it will make a nice keepsake, don't you think?

Gee Fritz...how are you ever gonna' get the nerve to hang that on the wall with all that "scribbling" all over it?

Well, as people periodically remind me, I have a lot of nerve :)
