Can anyone id the group/squadron or? in this photo?

This is a postcard from, obviously, Egypt during WWII. My uncle is in the photo, but I don't know anything about what group he was with. Supposedly, he was a B-24 mechanic. Unfortunately, my cousin knows absolutely nothing about his service.
So, if any of you gurus out there in Wixland possibly recognizes the pic, I'd really appreciate any info.

I think I can recognise at least one face at the back?

The guy in the third row, first from the right is named Sphinx, dont know his first name, and the tall one in the centre of the fourth row is 'King' Cheops? or something similar?

First thought is 98th Bomb Group, "The Desert Rats". Not sure why other then the look of the photo compared to other images of the 98th.

The B24 bit matches then

Wasn't the 90th Bomb Group the Jolly Rogeers?

90th were 5th AF in the Pacific. 98th were in Tunisia, MTO for the Ploesti raid.

Is there a good source on the web for 98th pics? I looked at their "official" website and there's no pics whatsoever there. :?:

Does Mike Hill's book "The Desert Rats: The 98th Bomb Group and the August 1943 Ploesti raid" have a good photo selection? I haven't seen that one yet.

It has a good selection of photos. That and His book on Ploesti "Black Sunday"

It was the 98th book that I was reminded of by your photo.

Any idea of the time frame the photo was taken?

There was a group of mechanics - manufacturer employees and USAAC - that rebuilt/updated the B-24s used for the first Ploesti Raids. I recently picked up some early Wings/Airpower mags and re-read them finding that article in the process. I'll look it up and see if there's anything useful to you.
