Waterman, "Brownie" was an early dealer of ex-military aircraft in the 50s thru the 90s, before the term "Warbird" was coined. His stories of wheeling n' dealing and his collection of "associates" was endless. He was based out of a grass strip near Johnstown, NY called Fulco Airport, where many of his inventory passed ie: P-51, T-6, Chipmunk, Tiger Moth, Beaver and the whole range of GA types. Always colorful, always smiling, Brownie entertained and educated a generation of flyers about the days of almost legal dealings with customers worldwide.
So I am curious if some of the more mature WIXers had dealings or just encounters with this memorable character?

I was trying to get hold of this guy regarding the pair of Mustangs he owned. I note your frequent use of the term "was" and gather he is no longer with us?

Waterman Brown; Born Sept. 25, 1926, Died August 15, 1999. One of the P-51s resided at the Fulco Airport for a number of years in the 70s in it's RCAF colors which it carried when auctioned off for scrap in Syracuse, NY in around 1957. I believe Brownie sold it to someone in the Chicago area, but I lost track at that point.

Waterman attempted to sell me a spruce bug sprayer Avenger in the early 90's Had run out of fuel and made an emergency landing and coasted into a shallow lake. If I remember the price was $44,000 I didn't buy it
We had a long discussion about his flying P-51's to Canastota NY from Canada when the Crown Assets disposed of them. Said he got $20 and a free dinner for the hop. I was researching for an article on the Canastota Mustangs at the time and he was very helpful. Very entertaining gentleman

Too bad. Would have been great to actually have talked to the guy. I know he was the registered owner of 44-73163 N6300T for eight days. He also had 44-73973 for two days. Both supposedly bought on the very same day. As for the third a/c you mention here as a scrap Mustang, would that be 44-74543 ex- RCAF 9252?
