Hawaii Tour

Just got back from Oahu...thought you all would be interested in some photos. A visit to The Pacific Museum of Aviation is well worth the effort and they have big plans. Ford Island will eventually be one large Museum complex and they are only in thier initial phases.

Image Phase two...this hangar will eventually become the Vietnam wing of the Museum
Image From inside the hangar damage to the glass from Dec. 7th abounds.
Image Hellcat project...not sure what will happen with this one.
Image Zero that crashed not long after the attack
Image Ford Tower

It is really moving to walk that dormant flight line and see remnants of the attack still plainly visible in the buildings and concrete. There is still a crater where one of the first bombs dropped and eventually consumed Hangar 6.

Great photos! The second to last one is the wreckage of a Zero that crashed landed on Ni'ihau. The pilot then terrorized the habitants (which on that island are to be only full blooded Hawaiians) with help from one or two others before being killed himself. There was an excellent write up about the event in Aeroplane Monthly last year.

Did you make it over to Barber Point and Kaneohe?

Thanks for posting! Mark

Thanks Mark, yes we made it over to Barbers and Kaneohe...just in passing. This was more of a beach trip and Pearl Harbor visit. I have a bunch more photos that I will upload once I process them. Hard to believe this place saw such tragedy.

Great pics! I'm jealous that the water was so clear on your visit compared to mine.

What is the tan wreckage on the pallets? I see it's a Hellcat on the right pallets.
