B 29 Man O War Update

Howdy all,
Spent a great day at the SAC museum yesterday. It was member tour day and enjoyed it greatly. Unfortunately the restoration shop was not on the tour but I did get the ear of one of the crew. He told me that number one is done and the cowl is nearly buttoned back up. Work is progressing slowly but well.
These are the best shots I could get. Hope to better next time. Lots more on the rest of the museum coming as soon as I can get them in photobucket.

Thanks for posting!
Judging from the shine on the #1 ring cowl some real elbow grease is being put into her. I sure wish I had some say in the final paint scheme.

Why on earth is that aft nacelle primed when it should be natural metal?

I do not know Scott but will ask the next time I am there. They painted the B 17 silver as well. Maybe they are going to paint the bulk of the airframe? No idea so please don't quote me anyone.
I will do my best to find out and get closer and better pictures.

the aircraft at the moment is projected to be 2 years away from done, complete interior restoration, cockpit is done, outside will be painted silver due to the work involved in polishing it and other reasons, top notch job being done on interior, I'm not involved on this particular plane but the guys that are doing should be commended, lots of little things to fix and redo

I hope you guys reconsider painting it silver. B-29's were never painted silver. Leave it natural metal until the day comes that you have the time, money and resources to polish it (even if it's several years down the road). Duxford polished their B-29 slowly over the course of several years. The Pima Air Museum polished theirs with an all volunteer crew (some from the base) and it came out beautiful! The NEAM had a contractor come in and do their B-29...gorgeous! Painting it silver just doesn't look right/authentic. You've already got it stripped, you're half-way there! Just my two cents. Glad to see the plane in restoration. Got any interior pic's?
