The first of the restorations.

I have a ton of interior shots from a few years ago. Not in photobucket yet.

Number one has been totally cleaned and polished up. The docent said it may be displayed in a cowling off format with 2-4 with cowls on. They all received a cursory cleaning during the restoration to get her "pretty" for the grand opening. She served as the backdrop behind the stage. The staff seems to favor her as a kind of sentimental sweetheart/center piece of the collection.

Again, they love these birds and take great care of them and are willing to share and discuss them at length.

B52 restoration

They are going to have their hands full with the B52! Judging by the quality of workmanship has gone into the B17 the collection will be impressive!

the b-52 in the collection was the FIRST one delivered to sac, not in the greatest of shape but well worth the preservation. #8711,

That's sure come a long ways since I saw it 31 years ago. Good work!

Oky Doky,

I took these two years ago with a 3 mega pixel Sony cam. Not the best quality but where the photographer was lacking the B-17 was excelling. The shots show just how great these guys work.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the excellent pics, I remember back in the early 60's when my uncle was based at Offutt AFB, he was in charge of base security at the time. He took my family on a tour of the base when SAC was in full force...I was allowed to go inside the B-36 and the B-17...the 17 being my favorite aircraft as a 9 yr old in 64...even then, the B-17 wasn't in too good of shape....The personel there at the museum have done an outstanding job on her, even since my last visit to the museum 2 yrs ago.....I know that all the old SAC museum a/c took a beating over the years from the elements and the tons of bird poop...Hope that all the a/c there can get the same attention the 17 has recieved
