BDK,

Thanks for sharing...More please! Got behind the power curve this year and couldn't make the trip out there this year. Bet they have a heck of a good show again next year....Bet I'll be there too!

Wonder how much sponsorship I'd have to raise to get the "C" model out there next year? I don't think I'd have to twist Don's arm to hard to get him to fly it out there either! Could be the first time in one heck of a long time (If ever) that a group of Mustangs comprising of A,C,D,H,K could be seen on the same ramp...As I recall there are examples of H and K models out there relatively close to Chino aren't there? Think Steve would be interested working with us on a project like that?

By the way what were you doing taking pix when you should have been working your tail off!?!?!? I may need to speak with JD about this......

Yeah, I missed you! :)

I have about 900 Mb of photos, some great, some average... Anyhow, too much to put on Webshots without a second lifetime! Maybe Classic Wings will publish a few? I'll give Kiwi Dave dibs, and rotate the rest into the webshots account when I have time.

I'm sure the C (as well as an H) would be very welcome. It is just a matter of money. Since this is a primary fundraiser for the museum, I think that they are not willing to pay much in the way of an appearance fee. After all, the general public doesn't know a P-51C from a P-40. Sometimes it is funny to walk amongst the crowd and listen to the comments and explanations! The few "Anoraks" among us would still show up anyhow...

Find out from Don how much sponsorship money would be required, and go raise it!

I volunteered half a day on Thursday, a full day on Friday, and then Saturday and Sunday morning. Luckily I get a break during the actual show to be able to take some photos for the WIX!

John Paul always seems to have one or other of his P-40s at Chino. Maybe, when his P-51B is done and flying, he'll bring it up to Chino for the show instead. Mike Coutches has his P-51H at Hayward which, I don't think, is too far from Chino in flying terms but I have never seen it at the show. I can't tell the difference between a D and a K for the most part. Any K models out there that still fly with the Aeroproducts propellor? Both the PoF P-51A and the Freidkin A-36 were dissasembled and stored in the back of one of the hangars this year. Too bad, I really like watching them perform.

Sorry I could'nt swing it down from the North Counrty. But I will be down next year, my better half has said it will be OK for me to go play with my airplane friends.

Your loss... :( We missed you!

Cheers

B-17, P-63, & TBM. No cat flight- no F3F. It was a D-Day theme.

The Kingcobra was sadly static, at least on Sunday. I have not seen "Pretty Polly" fly in about 10 years so I would have liked to see her up again. Grumman was definitely well represented with 1 Hellcat, 2 Avengers, 2 Tigercats, 2 Bearcats, and 3 Wildcats. Highlights of the show for me included Capt. Eddy's Firefly and the PoF MkXIX Spit which I had not seen perform previously. The TFC P-39 also looked fantastic all assembled and nearing test flight.

You are correct, the P-63 didn't fly in the show. The pilot, Jim Dale, was the airboss for the show. The Palm Springs Museum just got the P-63 airworthy after 7 years. It had been sitting in the back of the hangar with a bad shimmy damper on the nose gear. Hopefully they will fly it more now that it has been repaired.

The show on Sunday was slightly revised from Saturday, allowing the Navy aircraft to do fly-bys (flypasts for the Firefly) closer to the crowd-line.

The P-63 must not have flown much after heading out to the desert. It's been about 8 years since the collection left Minnesota. I never did get to see the P-63 fly, in fact I can only recall seeing it up here in MN once, still better than the Tigercat, which was never at KFCM when I was.

The C model is actaully close to flying - it's just a matter of getting the free time to finish it! Put it this way, if it were in Fighter Rebuilders shop, it wouold be flying within a month. When it is finished, I'll be bringing it to Chino every year for the Planes of Fame airshow.

You got to have priorities J-C! :D Thanks for the update, it's always nice to get the facts straight from the source. Regards, Chad Veich.

Steve Ericson. Must have had an engine change though, as the registration says it should have a Jacobs R-755 radial.

Also, there was another one without the firewall forward in one of the Planes of Fame hangars that I had not seen before. Other than the missing cowling, engine, and mount, it looked airworthy as well.
