A few P-47 shots from the 1960's/70's

Tue Feb 05, 2008 5:39 am

I found these this morning whilst searching for something else and thought perhaps of interest here.

Ed Jurist was not one of the greatest photographers but with a bit of PSP etc...these first three I presume are in Peru.

Nice vintage photos. With regard to the P-47 photos shot by Ed Jurist, what became of these aircraft? Would love to fine a remote field and make such a find as these.

The P-47s will surely be these.

Any idea which P-47N this is?

Amazing pictures! Even the early CAF publications (that I have and have seen) did not have any of the Peruvian airfield P-47 pictures (from Ed Jurist). Rogue is correct that this pic is indeed a P-47N. But I do not remember seeing any P-47N being painted in this scheme. However, two disclaimers... #1 It is a possibility that the CAF P-47N had this scheme for a short time prior to going to Florida with Tom Holman for restoration. #2 Anything that is correct is purely coincidental!

The only other P-47N that was airworthy (that I know of) is the one in Florida at Eglin AFB, that was confiscated by the Air Force. The T-Bolt was being flown and operated by Dr Penagarico during the 70's.

More info on this P-47N here: http://www.warbirdregistry.org/p47regis ... 89320.html

Tim Savage may be able to add more, if he wishes. Alan

Alan,

The Eglin airplane and the "vintage" photo are one and the same. This was the airframe that the Puerto Rican ANG restored to fly, and when she had a nose over at Shaw AFB I believe, the USAFM decided that the restoration to airworthy was illegal and took the airplane back. What a shame.

I would like to offer this shot, of the same Thunderbolt and an A-7, PRANG.

I do not know the name of the photographer, nor the pilots.
