Shuttleworth's Hawker Hind in its first scheme

Recently dug these prints out.

A warm feeling (at a premium in certain snowy areas) for the first person to ID the nationality, and why. Mike and Robbo and any other Shuttleworth mafia types can back off and let the others have a go (or not).

Once upon a time (1980s). IIRC, there were taken by RK (JDK's dad).

Hand-cranked flywheel start for the RR Kestrel engine. Two men with crank handles, muscle, sweat and paying for a pilot who can pick his moment.



Taxing out. Wing-walkers for safety; IIRC, it was a particularly windy day.

Actually, there were a bunch 'found' by the Royal Afghan Air Force in the 1970s, IIRC, and they were snapped up by various museums. Two went to Rockliffe, resulting in one ground runner, plus a fuse frame now back in the UK, one to the RAF Museum, displayed today in Afghan colours, and one (this one) to the Shuttleworth collection. This was painted in Afghan colours for the first couple of years, I believe as part of the arrangement when obtained, then went into 15 Sqn RAF (XV) colours which it has worn since.

I'll ask Robbo or someone with a DSLR and talent to post a current photo of it...

Here's some shots of the Rockcliffe Hind taken at the CAM a couple by my marshalling buddy John Davies and I noticed one here by Bob Fassold. Bob flies the Vintage Wings Chipmunk (used to be his) now under going a repaint back to RCAF colours.
