Sandtoft Lancaster/Lincoln bits

Found out yesterday the various bits of Lincoln and Lancaster that were at Sandtoft have been sold - to a 'rich collector' in Australia, and they are destined for a museum 'that already has a Lincoln nose' and wants to make a complete aeroplane. Camden?

That must be on top of the U.S collector who has supposedly bought it all as well ! Plenty of hype with this sale plus you bid on the items so nobody as of yet as set a realistic price for any of it.

Talking of Sandtoft is the Gannet now up for sale ?
Regarding the Lincoln and Lancaster parts will be very interesting to see exactly what does happen. Lets hope something positive comes out of it all.

yes, the B-25 you're thinking of was one of the five brought over by Jeff Hawke for 'Hannover Street'. One of the others is in the RAF museum.
Do any experts here know which one is the Sandtoft example?
I've got Mitchells do fly IMC on DVD and I've often wondered.

She is 'Gorgeous George Ann' formerly "Laiden Maiden' with John Stokes from memory. There is another ex Hanover street Mitchell at Cuatro Vientos,Spain.

They've been for sale for a while now - bear in mind most of what's in a print mag is generally several weeks out of date by the time you see it.

Blimey I thought magazine production was instantaneous word of mouth to paper stuff - I never realised it actually took time to collect, compose, edit, print and distribute it

Well you seemed to be indicating that you thought news in a magazine that was several weeks old took precedence over what the seller told a friend of mine just a few days ago. Believe what you like

Don't care where the bits end up as long as they are re-assembled and restored to see another Lincoln standing on its feet again. What better country than Oz.

I couldn't agree with you more Cees. It always pained me that they were going to ruin an extremely rare Lincoln to patch together a lancaster. I love lancasters, but surely there is room for another Lincoln. If it goes to Aus. I'd be very happy, because at least she will be well looked after, and in an appropriate setting. Here's to hoping she's finally coming in from the cold!

no need to throw your teddy out of the pram !
All I said in response to queries about the Gannet and B-25 was that the new FlyPast indicated that all the airframes at Sandtoft were for sale - how does that challenge anything that you said about the Lincoln/Lancaster bits- I'm intrigued to know
