Guy I know has a P-51 belly landing photo of P-51D Serial number 44-84947 that crash landed on 9/12/1945 with 1st Lt. William R. Long landing it. Looks like gear was up and only the props were bent. Some foaming of the runway. No Fire damage seen. Pretty clear shot for an original.
He asked me to find out whatever happened to the plane and pilot? What unit? I looked up in the Registry; nothing and then checked the Baugher website for serial numbers.
Can any of you help in info or sending me in the right direction to further my research.
If I can convince the man (Vet of WW2/Korea), I'll see if I can ask for permission to post the picture on here.
