Australian UFO No.2

Mon Nov 29, 2004 4:49 am

Hi all,
With my first unidentified part now pretty much identified, I thought I'd try another item. I have no idea what this piece could be. In some respects it seems a little bit crude for an aircraft part but then there are other features which make me fairly sure that it actually is.

So, it's over to you guys (and maybe ladies) to see if anyone might know anything about it.

Cheers,
Matt

Another refugee from Flypast here!

Matt, it is a Mosquito machine gun carrier, mounted in the nose of the aircraft. A nice piece.

Do you want to part with it?

Bruce

PS, do I get extra points for recognising it before the pictures had finished downloading!

Mounting Brackets look like armament...

Is that the standard rear armament bracket for a .303? Just curious as I own a nice .303 which I would like to place in a mount. Cool item!

Bruce, I'm astonished that it only took 6 minutes for the part to be identified. The internet is an incredible creation to allow such ease of communication and data presentation. Well done also for knowing what it was even before the photos had finished downloading.

In regards to your question of whether I'd like to part with it, well let's just say that the possibility exists. It's not something that I need and it deserves a better home. I believe that Ed has given you my e-mail address so feel free to write and we can talk. Otherwise send me a PM.

John, those machine gun attachment brackets seem to be a fairly standard design. I can testify that the Wirraway ones are quite similar to the ones on this Mossie piece.

Cheers,
Matt
