You'd be perturbed too if your MAE WEST crotch strap was that snug, and the guy with his coat buttoned like a girls kept offering to 'adjust that' for him :P

Can anyone shed some light on the "Sky Cowboy" what did the umbrella stand for? Simply a missio marker? And if so, did the umbrella signify a ground support role?

Please fill me in.

Cheers,

David McIntosh

I was wondering the same about the meanings of the umbrella's and the tophats painted on the planes.

Sat Mar 22, 2008 7:09 am

The tophats were for escort duties, I believe. Umbrella was top cover, maybe?

The dog farted right before the photo was taken. Dog farts are nasty...just plain nasty...

Dave...Correct

Top hat..."Escort"...get it?

Umbrella...What else but "cover"

Thanks Dave and Mudge...

I am now smarter. Now I wonder what other symbols they used for things. Obviously there's bombs, ships, etc.... but are there any other "different" mission markers?

Cheers,

David

The broom was fighter sweep.
Every one else is correct.

Not too well defined, but the images behind Ilfrey's head are locomotives destroyed. The 20th FG's nickname was "The Loco Busters"

Mudge the P-38 freak
